GARETT T. RAINES is a shareholder in Cheffy Passidomo who concentrates his practice in the areas of first-party and third-party insurance coverage disputes, bad faith, construction claims, and commercial litigation. He has successfully handled a wide variety of matters through summary judgment, trial, and appeal in state and federal courts, including significant and high-profile cases involving the rights and duties of professionals, sovereign entities, indemnification, and duties of defense. He has both prosecuted and defended personal injury matters, and he has represented both insurers and insureds. Before joining Cheffy Passidomo, he was shareholder in the law firm of Banker Lopez Gassler P.A. in Tampa.
Mr. Raines is a graduate of the University of Florida (B.S., Civil Engineering, 2003) and the University of South Florida (B.A., College of Business Administration, 2001), and he received his law degree from the Stetson University College of Law (J.D., 2006). He is an inductee of the Order of the Engineer. Mr. Raines was also a member of the law review and moot court board in law school. He was a silver medalist in the prestigious Willem C. Vis International Commercial Arbitration Moot and was the recipient of the E. Harris Drew Memorial Award for Excellence in Written and Oral Advocacy.
Mr. Raines has lectured in the areas of insurance law, insurer bad faith avoidance, and tort reform. He is also interested in international business and has written on international arbitration clauses. Mr. Raines is a member of The Florida Bar’s Trial Lawyers and RPPTL Sections, the Hillsborough County Bar Association Construction Law Section, and the United States District Courts for the Northern, Middle, and Southern Districts of Florida. In 2023, he became certified as a court arbitrator by Shulman ADR Law, P.A.
